You'd think we'd have learned our lesson the first time.

This is what our house looked like when we moved into it in 1998. It was very sad leaving the old Victorian house but because of diabetes issues and Bart starting kindergarten, we had to move closer to school.

We moved into this house after a long dry spell so we had no idea that it leaked like it did. The first hard rain came, and we used every towel in the house mopping up water that came in over the doors and nearly every window. It had a flat roof and the windows jutted up into the roofline, which was a poor design in my opinion.

We'd already renovated the Victorian house so figured what the heck, this will be a piece of cake.

During the first project we took off the roof, added some height and a pitch so the water would drain off. Then we added the overhang with columns so it would look more antebellum. We could not find bricks to match so ended up painting it the same historic red color as our Victorian was. I regret not taking pictures of the work in progress on this project but this was before we owned a scanner or a digicam.

Also, we live on the hill from hell.

It is rare when we have either snow or ice. Last year around Christmas time there was an ice storm. It was beautiful but we had to hike the driveway from hell for five days. Good for exercise but we sort of got cabin fever. The kids were ticked off that it snowed while they were already on winter break. This photo was taken going up our back terrace.

Here is another of that same ice storm. This is our driveway turnaround where we park our cars. The sun is shining through the ice so that was sort of cool.
